Background of The Pourashava

In the unpartitioned Bengal, the Meherpur is a very old human inhibition and is situated on the east bank of the turbulently flown the river Bhairab, the Branch of the river Gonga as well as the river Padma and its naming has been uncirculated in many historical popular talks of this locality. In 1999 the government of Bangladesh declared the Meherpur Pourashava class-B and in 2001 it was upgraded a class-A pourashava. There are 9 nos elected and 3 nos reserved women councilor and a mayor in the poura council of Meherpur Pourashava.
